Some years ago, before the large Do It Yourself stores appeared, people bought their goods and materials at their local ironmongers or builders merchant stores.

Most people knew the store owners by name and it was a pleasure to pass away a little time while in the shop. Today in the large D. I. Y. stores the convivial atmosphere is difficult to find. Help to search out those items you need, is usually not at hand.

 

 

People put up with this lack of service because they are under the impression that the D. I. Y. stores are competitive on prices.
